THE Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has charged the church to to ensure a periodic evaluation of his performance so as to guide him in the right direction.
The governor gave the charge at the priestly silver jubilee anniversary of the Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Chukwuma at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church, Asaba.
He said his administration is open to constructive criticism aimed at applauding those things which he has done well and to invite his attention to areas where he is lagging.
The governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Labour and Industrial Relations, Comrade Mike Okeme, congratulated the celebrant, Very Rev. Fr. Chukwuma, on his commitment and contribution to the growth of the Christian faith in the past 25 years.
He tasked the church to uphold his belief of evangelization through education, pledging that his administration would work hard to take the educational industry to greater heights.
On his part, the Chairman of the occasion, Sir Andrew Uwaje, extolled the qualities of the celebrant, especially for his commitment to his calling and the harmonious relationship with his parishioners which have earned him respect from Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
While enjoining him to shun the vices ravaging the church such as the love of money and of women, he advised him to uphold the virtues of truth and sanctity.
Responding, the celebrant, Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Chukwuma, expressed his gratitude to God for his successful priestly journey in the past 25 years, expressing his happiness that he was being celebrated while alive and called on Deltans to celebrate their loved ones while alive not after their death.
