Delta To Handover Completed 7.5MVA Electricity Project To BEDC –Safugha


Delta State Government has initiated formalities for the handing over of its 7.5 MVA electricity substation project to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to provide 24 hours power supply to Government House and the adjoining Core Areas in Asaba.

The Commissioner for Energy, Barr Newworld Safugha, disclosed this yesterday when he led top management of BEDC to inspect the project located inside Government House, Asaba, preparatory to its commissioning within the month.

He said the project was dear to the state government and was awarded to Obakpor Engineering Company Limited He said “considering the electricity supply challenges faced in the area, we felt as a government, we need to step up the process of completing this substation and put it to use so that the people living in this area can enjoy steady supply of electricity”.

“Once the project is commissioned, we are going to handover the project to Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

“The contactor will do the test running of the project before the end of the week to know what is in place in the substation and to see how well the transformers or the accessories are and to see that as soon as it is completed, it would be handed over to BEDC”, Barr Safugha disclosed.

He said the state government has stepped up plans to replace the existing 2.5. MVA transformer serving the Government House to provide steady electricity power supply in the area

Barr Safugha, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sir David Onokpe, expressed satisfaction towards the quality of job done by the contractor and appreciated the management team of BEDC led by the Asaba Business Manager, Engr. Ojo Abiodun, for stepping up actions towards receiving the project on behalf of the company.

The Managing Director, Obakpor Engineering Company Limited, Chief John Oguma, said his company was delivering the project at record time having adhered strictly with the project specification.
