“Being A SPEECH DELIVERED BY MR. FEMI ODONMETA, PRESIDENT, DELTA STATED GUILD OF INDIGENOUS NEWSPAPERS’ PUBLISHERS, DGINP, ON THE OCCASION OF A COURTESY VISIT To The Honourable Commissioner For Health Delta State, Dr. Joseph Otumara, BY THE MEMBERS OF THE ON THURSDAY JUNE 20, 2013”.
Indigenous Newspaper Publishers, Major Stateholders In Information Dissemination
- Femi Odonmeta, DGINP President
It is with great pleasure that I lead the distinguished members of Delta State Guild of Indigenous Newspapers Publishers, DGINP, on this courtesy visit.
Without much ado, let me go straight to the business of the day by stating why we are here, which is to explore ways of kick-starting a symbiotic working relationship between the Ministry and the league of Indigenous Newspaper Publishers in the state.
This has become necessary owing to the need for the activities of the Ministry to be effectively publicized for the understanding, appraisal and appreciation of the people, bearing in mind that the Indigenous Grassroots and Community-based Newspaper/Magazines in the state, remain the most efficient platforms relied upon by the Delta masses for information about happening in the state vis-à-vis conveying the feelings, reactions, and opinions of the people to the government and vice versa.
Hon. Commissioner sir, permit me to observe that the Ministry’s affairs can only best be publicized and promoted through the state-based Newspapers and Magazines and we have, by this auspicious courtesy visit, decided to rise to the occasion to offer ourselves to effectively project the Ministry, just as we are presently doing for other agencies and parastatals of the state government.
It is on this note that we solicit the co-operation of the Ministry towards achieving the mutual relationship, targeted at effectively show-casing the wonderful work which the Ministry of Health has been doing so far, especially in the areas of Rural Health care provision, the free maternal Health care and the special Health care package for the Under 5’s and the aged in the state.
We are also very impressed with the great work which the Ministry has done in the area of ensuring zero tolerance for Malaria particular through the recent distribution of insecticide treated mosquito nets for Deltans across the state and indeed the huge immunization programmes geared towards the eradication of polio of in the state, amongst others.
We wish to place on record sir, that our publications have given regular coverage and promotion to these initiatives which have been hugely successful in your tenure as the Hon. Commissioner for health and it is against this backdrop of mutual partnership that we, as major stakeholders in the Media and Information dissemination constituency shall continue to support your efforts and offer useful suggestions through which the cardinal objectives of the Delta State Ministry of Health, under your supervision and direction, could be achieved.
Sir, this speech would not be complete if I fail to request your generous support for our efforts as this would greatly encourage us to do more in consolidating our mutually cordial relationship as we move DeltaState to the next level in health care delivery.
Finally, let me express the whole-hearted appreciation of the DGINP to you for this beautiful opportunity to visit you, even as we believe strongly that this is the beginning of a long lasting and prosperous relationship.
Thanks you and God bless.
