Okemena Commends Okowa’s Youth Empowerment, Job Creation
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Community Development, Hon. Egbo Victor Okemena has commended the decision of the governor to start the job creation and empowerment scheme with the youths, noting that it would go a long way in building public trust.
The Aide, noted that unlike some other governors that are still trying to settle down, Governor Okowa hit the ground running, showing clearly that he had been prepared by the Almighty for the task of governing Delta state and alleviating the sufferings of Deltans.
Speaking to journalists in his office, Okemena commended the wisdom of the Governor in his decision to start his empowerment programme with the youths, considering that they form a larger percentage of the unemployed in the society. “The decision of the governor to start with the youths is most commendable considering that a lot of them are idle, and have become tools in the hands of the devil.”
He added that the decision to focus the job creation in the agriculture and natural resources, as well as rearing of livestock will in the long run, enable the youths to live a financially independent life, and also cause a deliberate shift from the reliance on oil proceeds to an Agrarian economy in the nearest future.
He charged the youths who have been chosen in the first phase of the programme to take the training seriously, so as to be able to deliver results in no time, pointing out that the programme is not just an avenue to throw government money to the gutters, but a means of training youths who can in turn become employers of labour and improve the standard of living in the society, thus helping the governor fulfill his promise of prosperity for all Deltans.
He appealed to the other youths who were not chosen in the first phase to exercise patience as they will be accommodated in subsequent phases. “While waiting to be included in the next phase, find something doing, no matter how little it might be, and keep yourself busy. The Governor has the interest of Deltans at heart,” he advised.
He also stated that subsequent phases will also focus more on the rural areas who already have farming as their occupation, as a means of discouraging rural urban migration, and bringing development to the doorsteps of the rural dwellers.
