Kano SG Annuls 85 Certificates of Occupancy
The Kano State Government on August 26, 2013, Monday, announced that it revoked certificates of occupation of 85 plots of land allocated to individuals in Kano metropolis. Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya, the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, informed about it during a briefing for the newsmen in Kano.
Mr. Yahaya said the state government took the action following the refusal of owners of the plots to develop them after the expiration government’s deadline. Another reason for revoking the certificates was the fact that the plots became hideouts for criminals in the metropolis.
Mr. Yahaya said that owners of the plots were given three-month notice four times to develop the plots but refused to do so.
“The government gave the affected persons three-month notice four times to develop them, hence, the decision to revoke the ownership,” the Commissioner said. Mr. Yahaya said that 38 of the affected plots were located at Groundnut stores area, 36 at Farm Centre, while the remaining 11 plots were located at the Trade Fair area.
The Commissioner said the state government had discovered over 300 plots that needed re-grant and called on the affected individuals to get re-grant or forfeit them.
According to him, there are 1,700 certificates of occupancy and 10,000 occupancy permits yet to be collected by owners in the ministry.
The Commissioner urged the owners of the document to collect them or be penalised.
On the ongoing road projects in the metropolis, the Commissioner attributed the delay in their completion to rainy season and changes in design.
