Nigeria Is Not Cursed – CAN Replies Obasanjo

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has faulted a recent statement attributed to former president, Olusegun Obasanjo who said that Nigeria is jinxed and cursed.

Obasanjo, while delivering a keynote address at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit during the week; lamented that after 53 years of independence, Nigerians were yet to commend any leader.

According to him, if that be the case, “then we are jinxed and cursed; we should all go to hell. We had some people who were under 50 years in leadership positions. One of them was James Ibori, where is he today? One of them was Alamieyeseigha, where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today?

General secretary of the association, Rev. Musa Asake, while reacting to Obasanjo’s statement noted that despite the fact that Nigeria is going through some challenges, it does not mean that the country is cursed or jinxed.

He maintained that the current state of things would soon be over “as there is always a trying time for every nation”.

“We have not been privileged to get the full information on the statement credited to the former president, but whatever he said may be the way he was seeing things; CAN would not want to speak more about the statement, because we do not know why he made such a statement,” he said.
