Taraba Crisis Update: Lawmakers Evade Comments After 'Meeting' Gov. Suntai, The 24 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly on Tuesday evening declined to disclose the details of their “meeting” with the state governor, Danbaba Suntai.
During their sitting on August 28, 2013, Wednesday, the lawmakers had decided to meet with Mr. Suntai this evening to confirm his true state of health before taking any position on his letter stating his intention to resume office.
The reporters have been asked to stay at the Assembly complex, while the lawmakers went to meet the governor. A surprise came when the lawmakers returned, held a brief closed-door meeting, and informed the journalists they would only speak to the press on Thursday.
The lawmakers did not comment on anything, even on whether or not they were allowed to meet the governor.
Meanwhile, a video was played on the evening of August 28, 2013, on Taraba State TV. It showed the governor swearing in the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff to the governor.
According to a Jalingo-based journalist, the reporters were not allowed to cover the event. However, the source revealed that Mr. Suntai, was also heard in the video telling residents in Hausa language, that “nagode muku da adu’a,” which can be translated as ‘I thank you for your prayers’.
