11 Killed As Gunmen Attack Port Harcourt
About 11 persons were at the weekend shot dead in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, at different locations by unknown gunmen, reports have said.
Six of the victims were said to have been killed on Worlu Street in D Line close to Oroworoku community when the assailants stormed a spot near a mechanic workshop at about 7.15 pm demanding to see the owner of a vehicle parked outside. The assailants, numbering about four, suddenly dashed to their vehicle and started shooting indiscriminately at those they saw. Eyewitnesses said six persons died on the spot.
Vanguard gathered that Policemen from the Olu Obasanjo Police station later came to evacuate the corpses that night. The reason for the attack is yet to be known.
Similarly, on Igbukwu Street area of Port Harcourt on Saturday, some suspected cultists took over, firing gunshots indiscriminately for several hours. Vanguard gathered that one person died during the incident before the Police later moved in to restore normalcy.
Another four persons were said to have been shot dead that same Saturday at the Eastern Bye-pass area of the state capital, raising the number of those shot dead to 11 on Saturday.
Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad declined to comment on the incidents. Responding to a text message by Vanguard, Muhammad said: “I decline comment.”
