OKOWA CHARGES PDP CANDIDATES TO BASE THEIR CAMPAIGNS ON ISSUES

IKA WEEKLY

The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has charged PDP candidates in the state for various positions in the forthcoming general elections to focus on issues that relate to good governance and the people's well being.

Senator Okowa gave the charge recently at the state PDP campaign office, Asaba, during an interactive session with the candidates. He said the advise has become necessary to avoid situations where the electioneering campaign would become avenue for promoting mundane issues rather than ways to move Delta state forward.

According to him, “we want our campaign to be based on issues. It is only when we stand on this belief that we can move the state forward.”
The PDP governorship candidate, who frowned at the use of ethnicity as a campaign tool by some candidates, said it is important that anybody aspiring to lead Delta State should addresses issues of development and good governance rather than dwelling on ethnic origin, which he noted was only meant to create division among the people.

He maintained that all Deltans will continue to live in peace and unity, noting that it is only in a peaceful environment that development can be pursued and sustained, and assured that PDP would carry out peaceful campaign.

Senator Okowa, while noting that PDP has been strong and would continue to remain so, urged the candidates to run inclusive campaign. “We must ensure that we reach out to all those who contested with us in the various positions and carry everybody along. We must reach out to the elders, leaders, traditional rulers, youths, women and others. No candidate should exclude anybody,” he advised.

He urged them to campaign for all PDP candidates at the different levels, as according to him, “that is our way of letting the people know about the unity and love that exist within the party, adding that, “the strength of our party is our unity.”

He equally reminded them on the need to pay serious attention to door to door campaign, which he emphasized is one of the most effective ways to sell our programmes and candidature to the electorate.
