APC Criticizes INEC Over Redeployment Of RECs
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the recent redeployment of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), a move the commission said it made as part of ways to ensure a free and fair election in 2015.
The Chairman, Enugu State chapter of the APC, Ben Nwoye said redeployment of RECs had almost become a routine.
”It is bad for INEC to routinely, switch the RECs few weeks before the general elections. It shows that INEC trusted in the conduct of the elections,” he said.
The APC chieftain described the recent exercise as a recipe for disaster, stating that the re-deployed RECs already appreciate the geographical terrain of their operations and had built confidence with the political stakeholders in their various states.
“Enugu state do not have confidence that the new REC, Prof. Chukwuemeka Onukaogu will be able to conduct or supervise a free and fair election because of his antecedents in Anambra State. He supervised the conduct of the most unfair election in Anambra state which is subject of litigation. INEC Charman, Prof. Attahiru Jega admitted that the election he(Onukaogu) conducted in Anambra last year was floored,” Nwoye said.
