2015: Delta NLC Endorses Okowa

By Jonathan Onwuka

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Delta State Chapter, and its affiliate unions, has endorsed the candidature of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP governorship candidate for Delta State.

The state chapter President of NLC, Comrade Williams Akporegha disclosed this, Monday while addressing the executive members of the union in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

He said the decision to support Senator Okowa stem from a critical and dispassionate appraisal of all the candidates aspiring for the office of governor of Delta State, adding the PDP governorship candidate was best suited to give the desired leadership to the people of the state.

The state NLC boss added that, "the endorsement of Senator Okowa is primarily based on his past records of service to the state," which he stressed endeared him to workers in the state in particular and Deltans in general.

Responding, the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa commended the labour leaders for the gesture, and promised to make workers' welfare his priority. While assuring of them of prompt payment of salary, Senator Okowa said his administration will work towards instilling discipline in work places.

Commenting on the Contributory Pension Scheme, he noted that the scheme has helped to stabilise the pension system, and added that the state government will ensure that pensions are paid as when due, even as he assured that no civil servant will suffer under his administration.

On plans to enhance professionalism in the state owned media houses, Senator Okowa promised to engage management and the workers in a round table discussion to fashion out ways to stimulate growth and productivity in DBS, DRTV and Pointer newspaper.
