Lagos State government yesterday urged an Ikeja High Court to dismiss with substantial cost a suit filed by the Registered Trustees of Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, challenging the verdict of coroner inquest into the collapse of a six-storey building within the church premises on September 12, 2014 that claimed 116 lives.
The government prayed the court to discountenance the church argument stating that the issue of wrong heading of the nomenclature of the coroner mentioned by the church was a mere irregularity which cannot render the proceedings of the coroner invalid.
Registered Trustees of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) told the court that the Lagos State coroner court under which the church was indicted over the collapse of six storey building within the premises of the church does not exist in law.
The church also prayed the court for a judicial review of the Lagos State coroner system.
In a related development, the Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, has said that the two engineers involved in the collapsed building of the Synagogue Church in Lagos who were found culpable in the collapsed building will be deregistered from engineering practice.
The Registrar, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, Engr. Kamila Maliki disclosed to Vanguard at the inauguration of Engr. Francis Ikechukwu Azuka as the Abuja chapter chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
