DELTA State Government has charged Delta indigenes living in the state and Diasporas to complement the effort of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration towards the development of their communities.
It also challenged the various indigenous and multinational companies operating in the state to deliver their corporate social responsibilities to the various communities they operate in the state.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Hon (Barr) John Nani, gave the charge when the Chairman of Jesse Elite Forum, Evangelist Samuel Akpokighe led members of the forum on a courtesy visit in, Asaba.
Nani said the policies and programmes of the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa administration primed on the SMART agenda for the prosperity for all Deltans was designed to evenly develop all parts of the state.
He said the Idjerhe clan where he comes from would not be left behind, assuring that it would get the fair share of the democratic dividends of the present administration aimed at enhancing the infrastructural and the social economic development of the state.
He, however, noted that the development of any community is the responsibility of all stakeholders living in the community, saying such responsibility could not be left in the hands of the government alone.
The commissioner, who appreciated the forum for recognizing his immense contributions towards the development of Idjerhe clan during his single term tenure as a lawmaker in the State House of Assembly, assured the forum that he was initiating plans to attract the state government’s attention towards the rehabilitation of the Jesse dual carriage way, Atiwor-Jesse-Boboruku roads and among other projects in the area.
He acknowledged the proposals of the forum as addressed by its Chairman, Evangelist Samuel Akpokighe, for the establishment of people-oriented projects in the clan including more primary and secondary schools in Jesse town as the only existing secondary school and two primary schools in the town have over bloated its admission quotas.
Hon Nani said the shortfalls of existing schools in the town made him to construct Erhiekevwe Secondary School through DESOPADEC budget, assuring that the school would soon be opened and handover to government for students’ intake.
According to him, Idjerhe clan as an agrarian community is due for agricultural processing mill, saying he would work towards influencing the attention of government/private partnership for the establishment of the mill in the area.
He therefore urged the people to take advantage of the monthly environmental sanitation of the state government to complement the effort of government by engaging themselves on road work and clearing of drains and gutters to keep their environment clean always.
