Delta State governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that his administration’s commitment to job creation for the youths in the state was to make them less vulnerable to crime and make them economically dependent.
Governor Okowa, who stated this during the 17th Annual Ogwa Ika held at Ika National Hall, Agbor organised by Onu Ika Nigeria, tasked youths across the state to take full advantage of his government’s policies on agriculture, vocational and technical education to acquire basic knowledge that will equip them for challenges ahead.
The state governor, represented by the state Commissioner For Economic Planning, Dr Kingsely Emu, said the state government through the YAGAP is creating 6,000 jobs across the state in three major areas of agriculture, vocational and technical education.
Governor Okowa noted that the state government understands that the unemployed are vulnerable, hence the state government’s commitment in creating job opportunities for them through the YAGEP.
While urging the youths to remain focused and take maximum advantage being created , he said that they would be trained and fully encouraged so that they can contribute their quota to the development and growth of the state .
On the old Lagos- Asaba road project ongoing for the past nine years, he said the road project will be completed next year, just as he appealed for cooperation and understanding with the state government.
Meanwhile, the Head Collective Leadership, Onu Ika Nigeria, Mr Daniel Usifoh, has commended the state government S M A R T programme, saying the programme is creatively all inclusive .
He said for effectiveness execution and quick pay back and visible multiplier impact that Songhai Amukpe project should be replicated in Delta North and Delta South senatorial districts in line with environmental endowment and comparative advantage .
Usifoh said that sequential reactivation of forsaken agricultural projects across the state will be effective and fast in jump starting the SMART programme, advising that Mbiri Farm Settlement and others similar project in the state be looked into .
On Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC ) Bill ,Mr Usifoh said Onu Ika Nigeria commended the state government initiative towards making the commission more effective and efficient, but stated however that Ika ethnic nationality was disappointed for not being accommodated in the amendment bill .
