Delta @ 24: We’ve Fared Well —Stakeholders

 
Optimistic Of Brighter Future

TODAY marks another milestone in the history of Delta State as both Deltans and other residents celebrate the 24th anniversary of the it’s creation, with prayer for peace and wellbeing of the people, taking the centre stage.
The special prayer billed to hold at the St Philips Anglican Church, Asaba, beginning from 9am and with the governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as special guest is a major highlight of the celebration that has also attracted felicitation from traditional rulers, religious leaders and other public commentators.

The commentators’ while believing that the state had fared well so far, contended that the administration of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa would impact greatly on the lives of Deltans and infrastructure development, in line with the prosperity agenda of the state government.

While felicitating with Deltans and the present and past governors, they called for the sustenance of the development stride existing peace and security as well as the continued transformation of the lives of all Deltans.

They described the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as a well groomed administrator whose political experience forms a formidable tool for moving the state forward.

Those who spoke to The Pointer are Igwe of Okpai Kingdom in Ndokwa East Local Government Area His Royal Highness Goldring Enebeli Ugbome (JP), the “Oduosa” Traditional Ruler of Utagba-Ogbe in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, Nzeuku Isaac Obi, the Agadagba of Egbema kingdom, His Royal Highness (HRH), Bini Pere 111, the Archbishop and head of Bethseda Gospel Mission, Archbishop Aggrey Owoma Apena, the member representing Patani Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Dr). Tonye Timi, a business woman and politician, Lolo Nneka Enwelu, the member representing Aniocha North in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Hon. Osi Okocha and Coordinator, Forum of Delta State Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Mr. Okezi Odugala.

The Igwe Ugbome thanked God for the corporate existence of the state despite the diverse ethnic groupings while the “Oduosa” of Utagba-Ogbe, Nzeuku Isaac Obi in an interview said that it was important that both the human and natural resources available in the state be properly harnessed for more rapid and meaningful development even as he lauded the persistent peace and security abounds in the state

On his part, the Agadagba of Egbema kingdom, observed that “the state has achieved so much although many people will look at it, that we are slow in achieving that but then, I am not in support of that slow approach, and it is when you get something in a gradual form that the thing will satisfy you and you called it an achievement”

Hon. (Dr). Timi, said that the state and its people had every reason to celebrate, especially what he termed the huge human capital development achievements.

On the present administration, Hon. Timi stressed that while the human capital and other areas of strategic needs of the state needed to be sustained, the SMART Agenda of the Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa needed to be legislated into existence so that, like the Green Book of Libya, it becomes the reference material for researchers and development initiators and implementers, for all time.

On her part, Lolo Nneka Enwelu, said that although much was yet to be achieved in the life of the state, she was confident Senator Okowa will greatly enhance the fortune of the state both in infrastructure and prosperity for all Deltans.

The member representing Aniocha North in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Hon. Osi Okocha expressed the view that the state deserved to celebrate its 24 years of relevant existence and achievements, especially in the economic and infrastructure sectors.
