Pastor Faces Court in Jos for Allegedly Defiling Two Underage GirlsA pastor was remanded in prison custody by an Upper Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, for allegedly defiling two underage girls entrusted into his care for prayers.
A 35-year-old pastor, Yakubu Izang, was said to have committed the offence on June 12.
A court hearing held on September 20, Friday, revealed that Pastor Izang had told girls’ older brother, Victor Dabang that the girls were possessed with demons and they needed special prayers to cast them out.
The accused convinced the family of the girls to hand the girls over to him for special prayers.
“The pastor told the complainant that there is oil which he will rob on the girls’ bodies and the demons will be cast out,” the police report read.
“Luck, however, ran out on the accused when the older sister of the minors visited them in the house of the pastor to see how they were faring.
“The pastor made love advances to the older one of the sisters, who turned him down and reported the matter to her older brother.”
The elder brother became suspicious of the activities of the pastor so he quizzed the minors, who confessed that the pastor had been making love to them. Dabang had complained to officers at the Nasarawa Gwom Police Station on September 17 of his suspicions.
The offence of Pastor Izang contravened the provisions of Section 275 of the Penal Code, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and applied for bail.
Mustapha Hassan, the presiding officer, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
The case has been adjourned to October 4 for hearing.
