Senator Adokwe offers free JAMB registration to 1,000 candidates in Nasarawa state
Sen. Suleiman Adokwe (PDP – Nasarawa South) has purchased 1,000 JAMB forms for distribution free to indigent candidates in the state.
The lawmaker told the News Agency Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lafia that the forms would be given to 1,000 less privileged students whose parents could not afford to buy the JAMB forms for the 2013/2014 season.
He explained that 200 students would benefit from each of the five local governments in the senatorial district.
They are Lafia, Awe, Keana, Obi and Doma.
According to him , the offer is the second phase of the scheme which commenced last year with 500 students.
Adokwe said that apart from the free JAMB registration, six Internet centres were opened across the senatorial district for free WAEC registration.
“The scheme is expected to assist students to realise their dreams and cushion the financial burden of parents that cannot afford the exams fee.
“Education, which is the life wire for the development of any society, requires the contribution of wealthy individuals for the nation to move forward.”
Adokwe said that the gesture would give sons and daughters of the less privileged from the area an equal opportunity to further their education.
He said that education should not be left in the hands of government alone, adding that the sector required the contribution of all and sundry for the country to move to greater height.(NAN)
