Okowa Charges FG On Sustainable Road Maintenance Policy

DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has called on the Federal Government to have a sustainable policy on road maintenance.

The Governor made the call on (01/04/17) while responding to allegations that his administration has failed to reconstruct failed portions of Federal roads. It was at the 40th year memorial anniversary thanksgiving service for Mr William Agadioma, father of the Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG), Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas held at Ovie Agas Close, Oteri-Ughelli, Ughelli North local government area of Delta State.

Governor Okowa observed that failed portions of federal roads was not peculiar to roads in Delta State but, most of the roads in all the states of the country, asserting, "most of the Federal roads are failing and i believe there should be a policy by the Federal Government to maintain the roads, without which, the problems in our federal roads will persist."

He disclosed that most often, the state governments were stopped by agencies of the federal government from fixing such roads even at no cost to the federal government.

The governor used the occasion to sympathize once again with the families of the Principals who lost their lives in an auto accident on the Benin/Warri expressway, assuring that his administration would fix the failed portion of the road, no matter the encumbrance from the federal government as was witnessed in the past.

He used the occasion to thank the traditional rulers in Delta State for instilling in their subjects the need to maintain peace and also, protect government facilities in their domains, noting that the state is peaceful and conducive for investments to thrive.

Governor Okowa also, commended Rt. Hon. Agas and his siblings for honouring their late father, observing that the SSG obviously, got his industrious traits from his father.

"Rt. Hon. Agas has carved a niche for himself in the political arena through hardwork; we should try and be the best in whatever we do and carry out our functions with integrity and our state and the nation will be better," the Governor stated.
Earlier in a homliy at the service which was attended by an array of political big names including the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rev. Fr. Christopher Ekabor while noting that Governor Okowa has done a lot, especially in the area of provision of infrastructure and setting up of Boards to ensure effective governance, urged the Governor to intervene in the fixing of the failed portion of Benin/Warri expressway where some Principals lost their lives in an ill-fated accident.
Rt. Hon. Agas said the thanksgiving was important to appreciate God for His goodness since his father died 40 years ago when he was at the age of 17.
