The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku, Rt. Rev. Michael Elue, has urged political office holders to imbibe the virtue of humility and simplicity, saying, “you stand to gain everything when you are humble and when you are simple.”
He gave the charge yesterday at the thanksgiving service of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, which took place at the All Saints Catholic Church, Onicha-Ugbo, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
He commended Dr Kachikwu for giving thanks to God, saying the Christians should pray for him to succeed as Minister and Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
“The minister has invited us to pray with him so that he will grow in his calling,. he also knows that without the assistance of God, no good can be achieved by anybody and no strategy can succeed,” the Bishop said, adding, “he desires that his brothers and sisters pray for him to succeed.”
“Jesus said we should be perfect as His Heavenly Father is perfect; Jesus does not want us to be just ordinary; the command is, you must be exceptional; so, we remind our brother that he, as a Catholic should be exceptional in his job because, our vocation as Catholics is to be salt of the earth and the light of the world; the world may be a very dangerous place but our lives should redeem it,” the Bishop emphasized.
Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, accompanied by his wife, Dame Edith, led top government functionaries to the thanksgiving service.
Also, yesterday, Governor Okowa attended the dedication of the Church of Advent of Christ, Anglican Communion at Boji Boji Owa, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
At the occasion, the ArchBishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, said “Christianity is a movement that brings refreshment to the people.”
He stated that, “Christians must be active be active and progressive till Jesus comes, how you live, what you do, have eternal consequence.”
Meanwhile President of the Christian Association Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has implored Nigerians not be dismayed because of what the country was going through, stressing that the country has not be forgotten by God.
The CAN President stated this yesterday in Warri, during his sermon at the coronation inter- denominational thanksgiving service held in honour of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri.
The service which held at the Foursquare Gospel Church located at the Palace of the Olu of Warri, witnessed so high dignitaries from within and outside the state.
Oritsejafor said despite the economic hardship being faced by the country, the country will bounce back, adding that there are so many men of God who are praying night and day for the country.
While congratulating Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri for a successful coronation, Oritsejafor said the thanksgiving service was special to him and the entire people of Iwere land because God has destined the new Olu of Warri for greater things.
Pastor Oritsejafor said the crown of the Olu of Warri is a special crown owned by only the Itsekiri Kingdom in the whole of Africa, noting that the crown, is over hundred years old, was a special gift given to the son of Dom Dom Mingos by the king of Portugal in the 16th century.
He urged the people to always thank God for not only what he has done for them, but also what will do for them, warning the people against handling success the wrong way, reminding that success, if not well managed can destroy an individual faster than failure.
Pastor Oritsejafor lamented that many Christians in Africa have mixed their traditions with Christianity, a situation he said, does not augur well with Christian in the continent.
The thanksgiving service was well attended by the some government functionaries including the immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, representative of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Commissioner Culture and Tourism, Barr Ernest Ogwezzy, Senator James Manager, Senator representing Delta South, Hon. Daniel Mayuku, Vincent Uduaghan, Commissioner for Works.
Rev. Shola Williams, Evelyn Oboro, Chief Gabriel Ofotukun, Barr. Tunde Smooth, Dr. Joseph Otumara, traditional rulers in the state and a host of others
