The governorship quest of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, standard bearer, Senator ifeanyi Okowa, received a major boast when thousands of the Labour Party and All Progressives Congress, APC supporters, decamped to the PDP on Tuesday, during the party’s rally at Ughelli North local government area
The decampees who were led by a two--time Director--General of Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, Chief Paul Obire, said that with the emergence of Senator Okowa as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP , it became imperative to give him needed support, as according to him, "Senator Okowa has the capacity to lead the people of Delta State."
Chief Obire who said they were tired of primordial and ethnic politics, while describing the PDP governorship candidate as a detribalised Deltan, stressed that the time has come to effect the the needed positive change in Delta State, and assured that Senator Okowa will not disappoint the people of Delta State.
Also speaking, the leader of APC decampees, Prince Otemu, said they were moved to identify with the PDP because of Senator Okowa’s brilliant track record of service and human empowerment, describing him (Okowa) as, ,"a very reliable candidate that has the interest of the people at heart."
Addressing the mamoth crowd of PDP supporters who thronged the Ughelli Township Stadium, venue of the rally, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, expressed happiness at the large turn out, and expressed optimism that the PDP will emerge victorious in next month's elections in the state.
He reiterated his commitment to improving the lots of Deltans when voted in as governor of Delta State in the coming election, through job and wealth creation, revamping of the agricultural and industrial sectors, boosting education through bringing back technical education to give needed skills to the youths.
Senator Okowa noted that, "beyond the promises, I seek unity and the peaceful and harmonious co-existence of the good people of Delta State. Our people must learn to live in peace and see ourselves as one. We must continue to eschew anything that has the tendency to divide us, as that is the way to bring development to our state."
