Delta community leader tasks NERC/BEDC on power
Sapele—A community leader in Sapele, Delta State, Mr Ben Tobi, has tasked the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Council, NERC, to compel the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, to provide electricity in the area, to justify monthly spending in purchasing electricity from the Federal Government which it is distributing to the people of the area.
He also asked BEDC to make public the record of all money it was collecting monthly from electricity consumers in the area, saying, “Both publications will justify BEDC’s charges in the area.”
According to him, “BEDC claims it is not making profit, but we know that is not true, so let them publish these records. NERC should compel them to do so and call them to order if they are found wanting.
“The incessant blackouts here have defeated the purpose of the step down at Amukpe. The step down has enough energy that can provide the people uninterrupted electricity but BEDC is not lifting the energy for supply to the people.”
