"On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate you on your hard earned victory at the Benue South Senatorial District Rerun Election. Your victory is well deserved because you campaigned vigorously, selling the party’s policies and programmes to the people of Benue South. Your victory in five out of nine local governments in the senatorial district showed that the election was largely free, fair and keenly contested,'' he stated.

“Your reelection for a record fifth term is a fulfillment of the clearly expressed wish of the people of Benue South, and a pointer to the resilience of the PDP in staging a comeback. I therefore urge you to be humble and magnanimous in victory, remain focused and ever committed to the advancement of the interests of all Benue South people irrespective of their political affiliations or loyalties,”

Governor Okowa further called on Senator David Mark to regard his reelection to serve as “a sacred mandate from God Almighty and his people which he must discharge with immense dedication, wisdom and vigour to achieve a much more rapid pace of socio-economic development in Benue South for the benefit of its people who resoundingly reaffirmed their trust in his leadership by voting overwhelmingly for his reelection in the just concluded polls."

Okowa urged the opposition to accept defeat in good fate and cooperate with Senator Mark by not challenging the outcome of the election in the tribunal in order to move the Senatorial district forward. He wished “Senator Mark continued good health and a very successful tenure in the 8th National Assembly”.
