OKOWA'S SMART AGENDA IS FOR THE LIVING NOT FOR THE DEAD-Barr. Uzum
IKA WEEKLY
The Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Delta State, on Special Duties, Orientation and Social Development, Barr. Eugene Uzum has called on all motorists and road users across the state to be careful when using the roads in this period of yuletide.
According to Barr. Uzum, “Deltans have done by voting for a governor who has promised us prosperity during his campaigns and so far his works have been speaking volumes in terms of human and infrastructural developments, as well as formulations of people inclined policies. This prosperity for all Deltans project as enshrined in His Excellency's SMART agenda can only be enjoyed if and only if one is alive, hale and hearty and not dead or maimed”.
Barr. Uzum explained that as 2015 is coming to an end with most celebrated festivals in sight motorists are always on the road from one place to the other either for shopping or for holiday reason, noting “Road traffic this time is tensed and turbid, therefore it is good motorists and road users take cognizance of traffic rules and regulations in other to avert controllable road mishaps.
He said, “The causes of road accident include bad vehicle conditions non adherence to road signs, driving while drunk, over speed, over load, impatience, indiscriminate parking of trucks along the roads, among others. Without doubt, strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations will reduce road accidents while non adherence will continually pose as danger/threats to lives”.
He added, “Accidents do not know drivers or passengers, it has no respect for kings, queens, governors, presidents or even little children. Accident does not only kill but also main and cut short lofty dreams, it delays your time, in any accident case if you are not killed or maimed but, someone else is affected. It is very cheap to prevent road accident than to manage the consequences. As we ply the roads daily, let's take note of our vehicle conditions with respect to good tyres, break trafficators headlamps, sound engines, break light, etc. Let us also be mindful of our health. If you are tired or feeling sleepy don't drive, if you are drunk, don't drive as well.
The Senior Special Assistant on Orientation and Social Development used the opportunity to call on all relevant agencies to be up and doing especially, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (V.I.Os) as well as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
“These agencies should take note of traffic offenders Issues associated with high speeds and bad vehicle conditions should be adequately checked. Also indiscriminate parking of trucks along the roads should be continually discouraged. The life of a Deltan is very important to the Delta State Government led by Governor Okowa's administration. Barr. Uzum declared.
