Jose Mourinho finally gave up on a top four finish following Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Leicester City.
In the post-game news conference, the Blues boss sensationally slammed his players for what he described as a ‘betrayal’ and told reporters last season’s title triumph may be solely down to his skill as a manager.
If they weren’t already, alarm bells must be ringing at Stamford Bridge.
With nine losses in the Premier League this season the champions are in absolute free-fall and are currently sitting just one point above the drop zone.
It isn’t as though the Blues have been unlucky or that things haven’t gone their way at the vital moments. They’ve just been very bad all season and something has to give.
After lambasting his players after the final whistle Mourinho, love him or hate him, has a point in that they’re not playing up to the standard of the previous campaign.
They aren’t showing enough fight or desire and appear to be lacking in direction.
However, this is the house that Jose built, and the make-up of the squad is of his own design.
It was Mourinho who deemed Romelu Lukaku and Ryan Bertrand surplus to requirements, that Oscar – the disappearing man – was a more valuable asset than either Juan Mata or Kevin De Bruyne.

Also, if Mourinho wants to give himself credit for Chelsea’s success last season he has to take responsibility for the downfall since.
Enough is enough – the Portuguese manager has been allowed to sell off the club’s future whilst other promising talents are looking elsewhere or impressing for other clubs on loan.
It’s a hefty price to pay for one league title and a league cup.
Expecting a man that thrives in chaos and falls out with people as often as he does to build a dynasty was preposterous, and for that only the board can be blamed.
No one can say the board have not given him every chance since but it’s dragged on too long now and, with no sign of improvement, it is time he was replaced.
Mourinho is one of the most talented and successful managers in the game, but he has lost the dressing room and for the good of the club he simply has to go.
The change cannot come soon enough and it would not shock anyone if it happened before Christmas.
