Busted: 252 Cultists Paraded In Delta (PHOTO)
The Delta state command of the Nigerian police have apprehended over 250 cultists in the state.
Confirming the story to Vanguard was Alkali Baba Usman, the commissioner of police in-charge of Delta state.
Baba Usman said that in Delta, the police has taken the war against cultism to their camps.
He said officers of the force have had clamp down on cultists in different locations of the state.
The police spokesman said that in Oghara, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) raided cult camps and arrested 48 members.
He added that in Agbor, about 9 cultists were recently arraigned and are facing the wrath of the law.
At Jesse, about 13 members of Sparrows Junior Eye (SJE) were arraigned in July, 2015.
The commissioner said that at Ibusa, cult members engaged a SARS team, and at the end of the tussle, two of them were nabbed.
As a follow up, the command reportedly monitored and arrested 33 male and 2 female members of the Supreme Vikings confraternity.
A raid at Okwe, saw the command apprehending 9 suspected Aiye 1977 A.S,H. Dodorima cultists during their meeting.
Baba Usman noted that on the whole, over 252 cultists have been arrested since the beginning of the year and majority of them have been prosecuted and convicted.
In conclusion, the police spokesman said it was pertinent to note that an increased level of confidence in the police force was a great contributing factor to the arrests.
He stressed that response time to distress calls has been reduced to five minutes due to the command’s effective communication network and strategic deployment of officers.
