Customs Officer Dies Test-driving Boss’s Power Bike
An officer of the Nigerian Customs Service attached to the Port and Multi-Purpose Terminal Services (PTML) command, yesterday died after he went under a moving petroleum tanker, while test-riding his boss’s new power bike. The officer was identified as Muri.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that the accident has thrown the entire command into a mourning mood as the boss of the deceased was also shaken by the accident.
“The man was test driving the power bike that was bought by one of the gate officers at PMTL and he was on top speed, he ran under a truck that was moving and in a few minutes the man was lifeless,” an eyewitness told Vanguard.
It was learnt that the tanker driver escaped, but an articulated vehicle that was also involved in the accident was arrested.
When Vanguard visited the command, the Public Relations Officers of the command, Steve Okonmma was seen making frantic efforts to reach the family of the deceased through his (Muri) mobile phone. When he eventually reached them, they reportedly requested that he should be buried immediately in accordance with Islamic rites.
