CHARLES STREET, AGBOR UNDERGOING ROAD REHABILITATION - IKA WEEKLY
Residents and business owners along the popular Charles Street, Agbor are in ecstatic mood following the recent road rehabilitation and reconstruction of the street after many years in a sorry state of dilapidation. The project which was awarded by the Delta State government led by his Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa through the Ministry of Urban Renewal is set to extend from the New Lagos/Asaba expressway down to the Old Lagos/Asaba Road of the street.
Speaking with the Chairman, Ika South local government council, Hon. Fred Ofume over the development, he stated that the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa in line with his commitment to the infrastructural development of the state had re-opened road construction projects across the state, noting that aside Charles Street, some other major roads in Agbor had also been mapped out for rehabilitation including; the Sakpoba Road, Agbor, the Agbor- Amukpe Road and some failed portions of Baleke Street, Agbor.
He further stated that the duration for the completion of the work on Charles Street is set for two months and therefore, a seasoned and reliable contractor was employed to handle the project. According to him; “the project on Charles Street was originally slated to be the construction of inter-locked bricks with side drains, but after due analysis and price estimations, it was changed to grading and asphalting with side drains. The project is slated to be completed within two months and therefore, residents of the area should look forward to better days ahead”, he said.
He further stated that with the on-going work at Charles Street and the proposed rehabilitation of some failed sections at Baleke Street, vehicular movements will ease up around the Agbor metropolis. He thanked the governor for his continued resolve to address the plight and sufferings of Deltans through people-oriented policies and programmes despite the harsh economic situation plaguing the state and entire nation, calling on Deltans to rally round the governor and support his policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the citizenry.
