IKA CARNIVAL FIESTA: SAVOURING THE RELATIVE PEACE AND PROMOTING UNITY IN IKA LAND.
By Vincent Oshiagwu.
Those who have been in Agbor metropolis since 15th, December, 2015, when the Ika carnival commenced, will undoubtedly attest that the Ika people have never had it so good for many years when it comes to recreation. For instance, the night life that hitherto was almost dead due to insecurity challenges seem to have returned again, enhancing the social and economic status which the Boji-Boji metropolis was known for and used to enjoy.
Kudos to Mr. Sebastin Okoh, EA on Events to Gov. Okowa and Mr. Chigozie Aliogo, the organizers of the carnival. They distinguished themselves as men driven by the passion for peace and desire to foster unity and remake Ika land.
Adorned with colorful christmas light-carrying flowers, the former Bendel Hotel along the Old Lagos/Asaba road, Agbor, venue of the carnival has become a haven of sort as mammoth crowd thronged therein every night to have a glip of top Nigerian artists, DJs and comedians as Timaya, Terry G, J Martins, Wizboy, Akpororo and Shaky Shaky to mention but a few who, since the commencement of the carnival have been on ground to entertain and thrill guests and audience.
At 2am this morning, saturday, 2nd January, 2015 as I pen down this piece, Terry G, the Akpako master has been on stage buzzing out thrilling vibes from his strategically positioned loudspeaker one of his sound tracks " Akpako" and ONE cannot help dancing to the rythm and riggling his waist.
In all these, my greatest joy is the relative peace being experienced this yuletide unlike last year when security issue posed a major problem to everyone. In fact, one wishes the carnival won't stop even though it will come to a climax today.
The incesant and senseless killings by cult groups faded into thin air this christmas, Armed robbery cases died down, Kidnapping was not heard nor reported, the weather has been so friendly and the Ika people, young and old, from far and near celebrated the christmas and new year and still celebrating without molestations.
Ones again, many thanks to the organizers of this carnival. The people are earnestly praying for the sustanance of the prevailing peace, unity and love urging the organizers to make it a continuous fiesta, especially during the yuletides for complete remaking of Ika land.
God bless Ika Nation.
