DELTA STATE GOVERNOR SEN DR IFEANYI ARTHUR OKOWA CALLS FOR TRADITIONAL RULERS TO WADE INTO INTER-COMMUNAL CRISIS
DELTA State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged traditional rulers to wade into issues of inter-communal crises to ensure good neighbourliness and peaceful co-existence in the country.
Governor Okowa made the call today (15/12/15) in Asaba, when members of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers paid him a courtesy call.
According to the Governor, the traditional rulers in crises areas could meet on their own to resolve their differences.
He stated that settling disputes amicably goes a long way to boost love among the people, encourage development in the communities, the state and the country.
Senator Okowa reiterated his administration's committment to a peaceful egalitarian society, where there is mutual understanding.
"I want to appeal to our traditional rulers to find solutions to some challenging land issues; we actually find that we still have communal crisis between communities and the best way to find solution is for the traditional rulers to meet privately before they meet with their subjects; once those traditional rulers accepts that there is need for peace to reign, peace will actually reign," he said, adding, "we will like to see greater love between the Aladja people and Ogbe-Ijor people such that land will not separate our friendship; I also know that we have similar issues between the Udu people and Uvwie people, we don't want communal crisis in the state."
He added, "it is not that we cannot as a government handle the issues, we can on our own look into issues, but if the traditional rulers committee takes some steps, we would be able to achieve some reasonable level of peace in our communities."
He commended the people of Oleh and Ozoro for towing the line of peace in resolving their differences, emphasizing that the traditional rulers' council could also, intervene in ensuring that the Kingdoms were at peace w
