APC Condemns Closure Of 'New PDP' Secretariat As "Disregard For The Rule Of Law"

The All Progressives Congress (APC) demanded re-opening of the 'new PDP' secretariat and called for all the people behind its sealing-up of to be identified and jailed for lawlessness and impunity.

This request is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, September 8, by the APC's Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

APC stated that although the internal crisis of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) "is not of their business", they are concerned because this crisis affects democracy on the national level:

"but when the crisis leads to repression, disregard for court orders and constitutional provisions, we cannot keep quiet because those issues have grave implications for our democracy,'' the statement reads.
APC described the sealing up of the new secretariat as a throwback to the Nigeria's darkest times, which, moreover, confirms the fears expressed by the opposition that the Administration of President Goodluck Jonathan will become increasingly intolerant and repressive with the approach of the 2015 general elections.

The statement says that the "disregard for the rule of law and the elevation of impunity to an art" by the ruling party is a sign that the old PDP leaders have not learnt the lessons, and that they will not think twice before they "bring the house down on all of us just to hold on to power."

The statement also adds that the terrible nature of the action becomes clearer when viewed against the lies being peddled by the old PDP, that the sealing of the secretariat, which it instigated, has been authorized by the courts.

It will be reminded, that the new faction chaired by Abubakar Baraje and consisting of seven of the party’s 23 governors, has announced that it has taken over the party on Saturday, August 31. The police have sealed off the secretariat of the split faction on Saturday, September 7.
